Keeping your skin hydrated and fresh during the colder months can feel like fighting an uphill battle. Here are a few tips from Barba Skin Clinic to help you win:

Moisturize

You always moisturize your face, but during the winter you’ll need to step it up. Depending on your skin type and how dry it is prone to getting, you may need to apply moisturizer more often, or pick out a product that packs a little more punch. Make sure you’re choosing a moisturizer that won’t clog your pores!

Use a Humidifier

Even though they take up space, these units can be extremely helpful for keeping your skin from cracking when it’s coldest. Stick one in your room at night to rehydrate your skin while you sleep. You’ll wake up feeling much better.

Use Makeup Removing Cream

Switch out your makeup removing towelettes for a cream. These creams tend to have oils in them that will help you face retain moisture. As always, make sure your careful with the types of oils in your products, and always choose creams and ointments that are noncomedogenic.

Chapsick

Many people forget about their lips regardless of the season. During the fall and winter, make sure to keep chapstick or other lip balm on hand at all times. Grabbing a product that has sunscreen in it is also a good idea — especially if you live in Miami! Even during the dead of winter, the sun can cause damage to your skin.

Vaseline

Your mother’s remedy might be a good choice for elbows, knees, and feet when they get really dry. Rub this thick paste on cracked and dry areas where you aren’t worried about getting pimples. This can be a good idea to do at night; you can slide on some socks over the Vaseline to give your feet the moisturizing they so desperately need.

Take Cooler Showers

This might be the last thing you want to do in the winter, but the hot water in your shower strips away oils from your skin better and faster than warm water. Take the temperature down a couple of degrees to help your skin retain the oils that will keep it looking and feeling fresh and long all winter long.
