What is your Skin Type?
Skin types and skin conditions differ. Skin type is something you are born with, and skin condition is something that occurs due to external factors. Skin type is based upon the amount of oil that your body produces and there are four skin types: dry, oily, combination, and normal. Skin conditions are those such as dehydrated, acne-prone, or pigmentation.
Many factors can affect the amount of oil that is produced by the sebaceous (oil) glands including stress levels, hormonal changes, medications, diet, sleep, skincare products, and more. Every skin type is susceptible to breakouts because of this, with some being more predisposed than others.
Knowing the type of skin you have will help determine what products to use or avoid; thus improving skin health and reducing the risk of breaking out. Barba Skin Clinic offers skincare services in Miami, FL including facials, peels, and laser therapies for all skin types.
The Four Skin Types
Dry Skin: If you have dry skin, your face may feel taught or tight and pores may be barely noticeable. People with dry skin can benefit from heavier moisturizers and hydrating with plenty of water. Other signs of dry skin include dull complexion, flaking, fine lines that develop easily, and sensitivity to cold weather.
Oily Skin: Does your skin get shiny midday? Oily skin is prone to enlarged pores and more oil production; thus breakouts. Because oil keeps our skin moisturized, people with oily skin are less likely to develop wrinkles early on. If you have oily skin, be sure to use a cleanser before bed and oil-free moisturizer during the day.
Combination Skin: The T-zone in the face comprises of the forehead, nose, and chin. If you notice these particular areas get shiny but cheeks, temples, and jaw do not—you probably have combination skin. To treat combination skin, each oily and dry region will have to be treated with type-specific products.
Normal Skin: Do you seldom breakout, and very rarely have dry or oily skin, you are lucky because you have normal skin. People with normal skin have a great complexion that does not require too much treatment; however skin types change with age, so it is important to maintain a basic skin regimen. Remember to wash, tone, and cleanse with mild ingredients.
